Do you offer these therapies?

Clinicians who work with FeldCare Connects often specialize and offer various therapies based on those specialties. For example, one physical therapist may decide to specialize in orthopedics, while another may choose to specialize in treatments for cardiac patients. The same type of specialization happens for OTs, SLPs, and RDs.

Therapies offered by clinicians on FeldCare Connects

The clinicians that utilize FeldCare Connects are physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and registered dieticians. Among these types of clinicians are particular specializations. Below are a few things different therapists treat and the therapies that they may choose to utilize based on the challenges faced by the patient.

This list is in no way complete, and we do not recommend particular therapies for specific conditions or patients.

Speech-Language Pathologist

There are many types of speech therapy. SLPs offer assistance with apraxia to professional voice development. With such a wide range of issues, we wanted to share a few of the things speech therapists can assist with.

Acquired Apraxia: This is a speech sound disorder that is often caused by brain injury when it occurs in adults. Apraxia can be addressed by utilizing repetitive exercises in one-on-one speech therapy, and an assistive speech device or app can also assist in communication during apraxia.

Aphasia: This disorder can occur suddenly, due to brain trauma, or slowly due to a degenerative disease. Treatment for aphasia can involve many strategies, including Melodic Intonation Therapy, Conversational Coaching, and more. Treatment is often enhanced by using an assistive speech device so that the patient can communicate their difficulties.

Swallowing Difficulty: There are many causes of swallowing problems. These can be caused by reflux, poor nutrition, lung infections, and more. SLPs can utilize their skills to help patients with swallowing disorders by providing compensation strategies and showing patients exercises for the mouth and tongue. An SLP may also be able to partner with an RD to create a diet that doesn’t exacerbate the swallowing issue.

Dysarthria: When a patient has weakened speech muscles or difficulty controlling speech muscles, they may need speech therapy to treat dysarthria. This speech difficulty can be caused by anything from head injury to Huntington’s disease. Many therapies are available to treat dysarthria, including tactics for slowing speech, breathing exercises, mouth, lips, and tongue exercises, and more. These therapies all work to improve the patient’s ability to speak clearly and regain control of their speech muscles.

Speech-language pathologists use the above treatments and more to address difficulties in speech and the use of speech muscles.

Occupational Therapist

Occupational therapy focuses on helping patients find ways to accomplish tasks required to get work done, take care of themselves, and go about their daily lives. This therapy provides strategies for adaptation, educates patients on how they can safely navigate their day-to-day, and offers techniques for improving problem areas.

OT can be used to assist with challenges presented by arthritis, stroke, chronic pain, diabetes, cancer, chronic pain, autism, MS, and more. An occupational therapist working with FeldCare Connects may offer anything from education on using assistive devices to providing strategies for coping with Alzheimer’s.

Some therapies offered by home-health occupational therapists can include:

  • Visual perception techniques
  • Biofeedback
  • Energy conservation
  • Stress management
  • Development of interpersonal skills
  • Motion exercises
  • Assistance in protecting joints
  • Accident prevention
  • Positive coping strategies
  • Use of assistive devices
  • And much more.

Physical Therapist

PT offers hands-on care, exercises, and education, all geared toward helping a patient restore physical function and improve quality of life.

There are many areas in which physical therapists specialize. At FeldCare Connects, we work with PTs who specialize in:

  • Cardiovascular and pulmonary
  • Electrophysiology
  • Geriatrics
  • Neurology
  • Oncology
  • Orthopedics
  • Pediatric
  • Sports
  • Women’s Health
  • Wound management

Each of these fields requires specialized knowledge that must be utilized to treat specific conditions. While many areas overlap, physical therapists often choose to specialize so they can follow their passion and provide the best service possible to the patient.

Registered Dietician

There are many reasons to consult with a registered dietician. These include creating a nutrition plan to help manage diabetes, cardiac issues, or high blood pressure. An RD can provide in-depth knowledge and education for those seeking post-surgical nutritional advice or during recovery from an injury or illness.

Registered dieticians working in home health likely have pursued particular specialties, including:

  • Diabetes education
  • Gerontological nutrition
  • Oncology nutrition
  • Renal nutrition
  • Sports dietician
  • Obesity and weight management
  • Eating disorders dietician

There are many areas of health, safety, and nutrition in which RDs can specialize. The above are some of the most common.

FeldCare Connects invites clinicians working as PTs, SLPs, OTs, and RDs to join the network and work in the home health space. Not only is working with these patients rewarding but finding freelance work that perfectly fits your specialty can allow you to pursue your passion – and help more patients than ever.
